New York Theatre Barn
HELP US GROW!
We need your help growing original culture-shifting musicals.
Other organizations focus on audiences. We seek to affect the work and those who make it. New York Theatre Barn works in service of a theatre that must fully and fairly mirror the reality of the country. Championing the creative power of diversity on and off the stage, has allowed us to inspire and foster an inclusive community for the development of original, unorthodox musicals. And with the expansion of new programs like Barn on Fire and Theatre Barn Records, we are growing original musicals far beyond New York City -- in the Fire Island Pines and globally wherever audiences stream music.
Put your hands in the dirt...and help us grow.
Now entering our 16th year, New York Theatre Barn has been a leader in the development of original musicals. Our track record proves the core of what we do: limitation is creation! During the pandemic, we pivoted, evolving our programming and storytelling systems to continue supporting artists and the development of original musicals. During our past 16th season, we have showcased the development of 14 new musicals and lifted up 6 emerging choreographers. Over the past year, we have:
- Showcased 4 new musicals in development through the New Works Series.
- Made space for 6 emerging choreographers to devise new work in the Choreography Lab.
- Mentored 8 writers and creatives through Barn on Fire, our partnership with the Fire Island Pines Arts Project, in Fire Island Pines.
- Launched our first Choreography Lab Community Audition, allowing Alumni Choreographers to run an audition room in NYC.
- Released 2 concept EPs through Theatre Barn Records: Sueños: Our American Musical and Xena: Warrior Musical.
For our 17th season in 2024, we hope to continue to expand our reach by making space for more writers, choreographers, and artists. We have made musical theatre development the most accessible that it’s ever been both for artists and audiences. Donations from supporters like you make all of our efforts happen onstage and online.
In order to continue incubating new musicals, help us raise $24K for 2024:
- $25 pays for monthly upkeep of our streaming services.
- $100 pays for essential supplies, such as printed scripts, to each show produced through the New Works Series.
- $250 pays for a few hours of rehearsal space on behalf of the choreographers affiliated with the Choreography Lab.
- $500 pays for a portion of the rent on our performance spaces.
- $1000 pays for a day of studio time for a Theatre Barn Records album.
